Like many people I do tend to do a lot of my natural or holistic product buying online. Sometimes, however,  it is just really nice to actually go to a store and see the products in the flesh before you buy them. This somehow for me makes the purchase more enjoyable, especially if you get some great advice from the store owner. I saw a link to the website www.findahealthstore.co.uk which is owned by Viridian and decided to give it a go. Believe it or not this clever idea lets you search for your local independent health store…. see what they did there! I mainly frequent the lovely guys at Real Foods in Edinburgh and I thought I at least knew most of the stores in my locality, but I was wrong. After typing in my postcode, www.findahealthstore.co.uk came up with some new options for me and showed independent health stores that were in fact closer to my house. Result.

Today, I took the little people on a trip to visit one of these stores – Good Food in Morningside, Edinburgh. This is such an adorable store. Within minutes of speaking to the lovely owner, Carin, I could tell she was not only lovely but super passionate about her products and I knew that I was about to get some great advice.  Good Food has been in the area for decades, however Carin took over the store a few years ago.

Good Food is really well laid out and for a smallish store with lots of great products, everything was surprisingly easy to see and it didn’t feel cluttered. Without getting all Changing Rooms on you, the decor gave it a great retro, natural, homely vibe and it is the kind of store that I feel most people would feel really comfortable in. Carin’s knowledge of all the products was superb.

I looked over make-up, snacks, vitamins, chocolates … at the same time as trying to control my now excitable children. (Apologies to Carin again, but they felt very at home in the store!). When it came to her advice on vitamins, Carin listened to what I wanted, was honest with replies, told me what she would recommend and also what I did not need ( I had already advised her what vitamins I currently take). I loved her honest approach.

All in all we spent a good 30-40 minutes in Good Food and it flew by. I came home with a load of great purchases for me, the kids and even Mr Dog.

Viridian Ultimate 100% Organic Beauty Oil  – Looking forward to trying this 3:6:9 fatty acid rich product for my hair, skin and nails.

Viridian Ultimate Beauty Skin Hydration –  I have been taking their High Potency Hyaluronic Acid capsules, but I am interested to try these when that bottle is finished. I am sure they will help my skin’s hydration as we head into summer.

Viridian High Five Multivitamin & Mineral Formula- you can’t beat a good multivitamin.

Coco Caravan Sweet Fig – I am mildly obsessed with chocolate at the moment and the thought of chocolate and figs is really appealing.  I am held back from opening this packet until I took photos … photos are now done and these are yummy!

Equinox Kombucha The Living Tea in Ginger – I have never tried Kombucha before, but I have heard it is great for your immune system along with other benefits.

Viridian 100% Organic Raw Coconut Oil- Such a great healthy fat with so many uses like cooking, moisturiser and hair conditioner.

Optibac Probiotics for Babies & Children – I have noticed a difference in my kids since I started to use probiotics with them. Interested to see how they get on with these sachets.

Eat Real Hummus Chips – These are a favourite in my house and the kids grabbed a bag as soon as the saw it in Good Food!

Benecos  Natural Nail Polish Remover – Although I have non-toxic nail polishes, this will be my first try of natural polish remover.

Lavera All Round Cream and Hand Cream- Lavera as a brand have a great wide range but I am yet to try there creams.

The Primal Kitchen Hazelnut & Cocoa Raw Paleo Bar – I was drawn to the packaging of this bar at the till…. such a sucker for good packaging!

Biona Organic Jelly Dinos – You will never guess who chose these … I suspect this is what started their excitement in the store.

A Vogel Herbamare infused salts – perfect to take out and about.

Lily’s Kitchen – The Famous Bedtime Biscuits with Honey, Yoghurt, Chamomile & Passion Flowers. Low and behold my little “starving ” lab has already tried a couple of these. If I take on board the fervent wagging of his tail, I am guessing that he likes them!

I am looking forward to trying all of these out and I will feedback on how I get on. In the meantime, why not have a look at www.findahealthstore.co.uk and take a visit to your local independent health store. I was pleased to find the gem of a store I did!
