Unless you have been in a far flung tropical island with no TV …. or any other form of media for that matter …. you will have seen or heard of the downsides of refined sugar on our health. There has been a wonderful rise in the amount of sugar free or naturally sweet recipes online and also for those who don’t want to completely give up sugar, an awful lot more products with lower GI in them. Although I don’t have the sweetest tooth in my family I do love things like local honey on toast, so I was interested to try out an alternative. My latest online haul at Healthy Foods Online uncovered a couple of new favourites.
First up is Biona Organics Agave Light Syrup. This mild, yet sweet tasting vegan friendly syrup comes from the Mexican Agave plant. I like it! It tastes great on toast and I am about to use it as part of a chocolate cake recipe. The easy to dispense bottle allows for simple control of how much of the syrup you want. I have found you actually do not need a lot of it to get the great flavour. Due to it’s thinner consistency, this Agave Light Syrup is also great to add to hot drinks or cocktails as it dissolves really well and quickly. Although this product still has a high fructose level it is an option to consider. Big thumbs up from me.
