When it comes to make up I definitely am all about the eyes! In years gone by, it was a bit of a standing joke, if I went out with a good friend we would always re-apply our eye make up…. on most trips to the bathroom…regardless if we needed it….or not as quite often was the case…more is more was the motto. (This same motto was applied to the hallowed but discontinued No.7 Skin Tint with Pearl….we were a vision…..of something). At the end of the night there was definitely a panda eye look to things. Luckily things have tamed down a bit and although I still do not like to be seen without at least some mascara, I am happy to avoid the Alice Cooper look.
I have been a devout follower of the same mascara brand, Chantecaille, for the last 8 or so years. I like what it does and it has never failed me. However at £35 I am not so keen on the price ….ouch. After trying Living Nature’s (www.livingnature.com) Tinted Moisturiser with great success I decided to have a look at what else they did. Cue their Thickening Mascara in Blackened Brown ( also available in Jet Black- £20).
When it comes to eye make up, more is more…..
I love that Living Nature products are all 100% natural and love their sleek black packaging of the make up range. A couple of things I noticed when I first opened the tube were the delicate smell of lavender and also that the brush was not dripping in mascara. The 8ml mascara tube is thick enough to hold comfortably when applying. Upon application I found that the brush gripped the eyelashes well and separated them nicely….. no spider eye look here. I also did not have any residue product come through onto my lids, which I normally do.
This mascara gives a great natural look with one application. I would not describe it as thickening at this stage. It does however build up beautifully and I have not managed to make it clump after layering it a few times!! Halloysite clay is one of the ingredients and it is renowned for thickening without clumping. I have not noticed any flaking of the mascara either and not a glimpse of panda eyes! This mascara looks good with or without eyeliner. I genuinely felt like it was an extension of my own lashes….just more defined. Final point is that is a natural product and it is good for sensitive eyes. Pretty perfect.
I like this mascara a lot. It is really versatile as you can go for the subtle fresh look with one coat, or layer it up for a more defined framing of the eyes. It did not provide the length that my previous mascara does but, it lasts well throughout the day and does not smudge. I also found that my eyelashes felt in good condition after a week or so of using it. I will be trying out more from this New Zealand brand in the next few months. I have been pleasantly surprised at how they are making natural products stand up to the rest of the make up market.
